MOSCOW VIRTUOSI”. THIRTY-FIVE YEARS ON STAGE
European Stage of the World Tour

During April 2014 the Third International Festival “Art-Assemblies. Days of Russian Culture” tour. Having earned the admiration of European audiences for the past two years, will present the Russian Chamber Orchestra “Moscow Virtuosi” under the baton of Vladimir Spivakov. The world tour is timed to coincide and celebrate thirty-five years excellence musicianship from this outstanding orchestra.
Chamber Orchestra “Moscow Virtuosi” was formed in 1979. Its founder was the outstanding virtuoso violinist Vladimir Spivakov. The maestro was assisted by musician friends and like-minded artistes who were already winners of various international competitions. Their chamber ensemble quickly acquired a reputation as one of the best symphony and chamber orchestras in the Russian capital.
The chamber orchestra’s accompanist strings group were members of the celebrated quartet Borodin; Mikhail Kopelman, Andrew Abramenkov, Dmitry Shebalin and Valentin Berlinsky. From the orchestra’s foundation the team has given superlative performances. Such was its standing that it allowed the orchestra the honour of being ambitiously termed the “Moscow Virtuosi”.
The orchestra’s formative years were marked by enriching creative compositions by virtuoso musicians. Each of the ensemble‘s personable members contributed significantly to its position as a world-class musical ensemble. Its repertoire whilst formidable and challenging was varied and exquisite. Included were works from by Bach to Alfred Schnittke with their own distinctive repertoire and performing style.
Orchestra “Moscow Virtuosi” differs from many other chamber orchestras. Theirs is a truly European culture ensemble performance paying attention to detail and nuance. Performances tend to be gentle rather than a formality with an active and creative attitude towards the composer’s intention. Here will be found bright artistry and artistic ardour felt towards their played works which is applauded by audiences.
In every performance “Moscow Virtuosi” demonstrate high professional levels of performance that emotionally and intellectually captivate audiences. Such is the enchantment and atmosphere created by the ensemble that members of the audience, trained and untrained in the arts, are compelled to return time after time.
Tours made by “Moscow Virtuosi” take in all regions of Russia and those nations that were once part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Added to these triumphs can be included concerts played in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, Turkey, Israel, China, South Korea and Japan etc.
The orchestra performs at the most prestigious concert halls. These include Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Musikverein in Vienna, The Royal Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall in London. The Salle Pleyel and The Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. Further to these outstanding venues the “Moscow Virtuosi” have delighted audiences in a great many splendid halls scattered across scores of provincial towns and cities.
Artistic director, chief conductor and soloist of the Chamber Orchestra since its inception is the outstanding violinist Vladimir Spivakov. This prominent public figure is an exceptional conductor.
It is thanks to maestro Spivakov and his years of dedication that “Moscow Virtuosi” is considered high among the finest chamber orchestras in the world. This and appreciative audiences reflects his persistency, creativity and hard work.
The leader Vladimir Spivakov inspires almost celestial harmony which, under his direction, takes on a unique sound created with extraordinary passion and incredible efficiency. People come to the ensemble’s concerts again and again. The “Moscow Virtuosi” leave their audiences feeling musically satiated.
The program, which during the forthcoming tour will present the renowned orchestra in Luxembourg, Switzerland, France and Germany, is called “Moscow Virtuosi. Today and Tomorrow”. The orchestra’s name says it all for it covers the past thirty-five years and the continuity of great musical tradition.
The program will bring together young upcoming talents. Fellows International Charitable Fund of Vladimir Spivakov – Anastasia Kobekina (cello) and Matvey Sherling (alto saxophone) whose presence invests much talent in the ensemble‘s future. The Fellows International Charitable Fund was established in 1994. It takes credit for introducing many gifted musicians who are eventually included in this elite classical music orchestra.
During its tour the Orchestra “Moscow Virtuosi”, under the baton of Vladimir Spivakov, will perform works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Joseph Haydn, Dmitri Shostakovich, Astor Piazzolla and Jimmy Van Heusen. Included in the superlative program the European premiere of Capriccio “Sinai Desert” featuring Yuri Sherling for saxophone and chamber orchestra.
Under the auspices of The Third Festival “Art-Assemblies. Days of Russian Culture” being performed April 25 – 28 the orchestra will perform at the best concert halls in Luxembourg (Philharmonie Luxembourg), Strasbourg, France (Church Sant Paul), Bern, Switzerland (Kulturcasino) and Baden-Baden, Germany (Kurhaus).
